
Based in Hamilton, Ontario, Michael brings over three decades of professional drumming and music education experience to the industry. His comprehensive training and diverse performance background have established him as a versatile musician known for his positive attitude, thorough preparation, and professional approach across multiple musical styles.
Michael is the host of the Drummers Pathway podcast, which features conversations with drummers, educators and creative artists discussing their experiences and the paths they have followed to pursue a life in the arts.
Musical Journey
Michael’s percussion journey began in elementary school, where he first discovered his passion for drums and percussion instruments. During his high school years, he actively participated in various orchestral and jazz groups, culminating in his role as principal percussionist with the Thunder Bay Youth Symphony.
Following high school, Michael relocated to Hamilton to pursue formal training at Mohawk College’s Applied Music program, focusing on Jazz performance and music education. Upon completing his studies in 1993, he launched his professional career as a freelance drummer and private instructor.
Committed to continuous growth and artistic development, Michael actively stays current with industry trends while maintaining his versatility and creative inspiration. His dedication to excellence has led him to study under some of the most respected educators in the field, including Paul Delong, Andrew Proctor, Kevin Dempsey, Rick Gratton, Maureen Brown, Kenny Aronoff, Jim Blackley, Mark Kelso, Jeff Salem, Chris Lesso, Stephane Chamberland, Claus Hessler, Dom Famularo, Joe Bergamini, Jason Bittner, Todd Sucherman, and David Garibaldi.
Professional Experience
Throughout his career, Michael has collaborated with a wide range of musicians, performing in both live concert settings and recording studios, from local cover bands to original artists and musical theatre. His teaching practice has evolved to include private coaching.
Today, Michael continues to balance his passion for performance with his commitment to music education, maintaining an active presence in Hamilton’s music scene while inspiring the next generation of drummers.
